“Know Your Rights”: Cahul Students Discuss Rights, Inclusion and Mutual Respect

On 15 September 2026, A.O. Centrul Regional de Dezvoltare Comunitară, in cooperation with the Southern Regional Directorate of the General Inspectorate for Migration and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Research, conducted two information sessions entitled “Know Your Rights” at the “Petr Rumeanțev” Theoretical High School in Cahul.

A total of 43 students participated in the activities, including 12 children who are citizens of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, who took part in the sessions alongside their classmates from the Republic of Moldova.

Children’s rights explained through situations close to their everyday lives

The sessions were designed in an interactive format so that students would not simply receive information, but could also analyse, discuss and express their own views.

Using situations drawn from the everyday lives of teenagers, we discussed children’s rights, responsibilities, respect for personal boundaries, online safety, prevention of discrimination, and how we can respond when we witness an unfair situation or behaviour that may harm others.

Particular attention was given to preventing intolerance and xenophobia in the school environment and to promoting a climate in which every student, regardless of citizenship, language or life experience, feels safe, respected and included.

Through exercises and discussions, students were encouraged to reflect not only on their own rights, but also on everyone’s responsibility to respect the rights of others.

A safe space for questions and dialogue

For us, such sessions are important because they provide children with a space where they can ask questions, analyse real-life situations and better understand where personal freedom ends and responsibility towards others begins.

Knowing one’s rights contributes not only to the protection of children, but also to the development of a culture of respect, inclusion and solidarity within the school community.

At the same time, the activity created a shared space for interaction between students from the host community and children who came from other countries, supporting intercultural dialogue and integration in an educational environment based on mutual respect.

Through such activities, A.O. Centrul Regional de Dezvoltare Comunitară, together with its partners, continues to contribute to creating safer and more inclusive educational spaces for children and young people.

The activity was also carried out within the project “Strengthening the Capacity for Socio-Economic Integration of Displaced Families and Host Communities”, financed by the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF), administered by the World Bank, and implemented by Terre des hommes – Moldova in partnership with the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
