Empowering Rural Women: A Local Success Story

Empowering Rural Women: A Local Success Story

The results of our projects continue to inspire and drive positive change in the communities of southern Moldova. A remarkable example is the project “Empowering Women in Rural Areas for Good Governance”, which was presented during Panel II – “Promoting Gender Equality at the Local Level with the Support of the European Union through Small Grants to Civil Society Organizations”, held at the closing conference of the project “Partnerships for Women’s Leadership and Good Governance: Results and Lessons Learned”.

Women’s Clubs – a driver of community change in Antonești and Taraclia de Salcie

The project led to the creation of two Women’s Clubs in the villages of Antonești and Taraclia de Salcie. These became safe and motivational spaces for women from rural areas, providing an environment conducive to developing leadership skills, exchanging good practices in local governance, and offering mutual support. The women involved became active and respected voices in their communities, contributing to relevant local initiatives.

Active participation in electoral processes and monitoring gender equality plans

A key component of the project was encouraging women’s participation in local elections, which led to increased engagement in public life and decision-making at the community level. Furthermore, club members actively monitor the implementation of Local Gender Equality Promotion Plans, ensuring that local authorities' commitments translate into real actions.

Strategic partnerships for a fair society

The project was made possible thanks to the support of our reliable partners: Institutum Virtutes Civilis, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova, and the European Union in the Republic of Moldova. They invested in the personal and civic development of rural women and supported our joint efforts to promote gender equality and good governance.

An important step toward lasting change

This project marks only the beginning of a deep and lasting transformation process in rural communities. The women involved have shown that with trust, solidarity, and active participation, they can become true leaders and agents of change. Our organization will continue to support similar initiatives that contribute to building a fairer, more inclusive, and participatory society.
