“Empowering Women in Rural Areas for Good Governance” – Results Achieved at the End of the Project

Six months filled with emotions and engaging activities flew by “in the blink of an eye” for the 30 women involved, residents of Antonești (Cantemir district) and Taraclia de Salcie (Cahul district). The project participants were empowered to support good governance and to become actively involved in addressing local issues through local public policies developed in collaboration with Local Public Authorities.
Thus, 15 women from Antonești and 15 women from Taraclia de Salcie created two Women’s Clubs in their communities. They are beneficiaries of the initiative “Empowering Women in Rural Areas for Good Governance,” implemented by the NGO Regional Center for Community Development within the project “Partnerships for Women’s Leadership and Good Governance,” carried out by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova and Institutum Virtutes Civilis, with financial support from the European Union and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
Working diligently and harmoniously, the 30 women—eager to take an active role in their communities—participated in training and joint work sessions, as a result of which they developed and submitted public policy proposals to their Local Councils, all of which were unanimously approved.
As part of the project, the Women’s Clubs from the two localities received financial support to address one issue each from the list of priorities outlined in the public policies approved by the LPAs. As a result of fruitful collaboration with Antonești LPA, the Cultural Hall “Leca” will be equipped with a sound system, enabling broader community participation in cultural life. Meanwhile, in Taraclia de Salcie, with additional financial support from the community, the first local fitness room was established.
At the beginning of September, the most anticipated event of the project took place — the Exchange of Best Practices, where participants had the opportunity to share their experiences from the six months of activities.
The project began in March and concluded in September of the current year, yielding rich and valuable results. Through these initiatives, we — the team of the Regional Center for Community Development — aimed to contribute to creating a local environment favorable to community development and to encouraging the emergence of future local women leaders.
