Gender-Based Violence Prevention Activity with Young Women from the “Iulia Hasdeu” College in Cahul
The Regional Center for Community Development carried out a new activity dedicated to preventing gender-based violence, this time together with a group of young women from the “Iulia Hasdeu” College in Cahul. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to promote safety, respect, and equality among young people.
The activity was organized in partnership with the Peer-to-Peer Educators from the college’s “Equal to Equal” program and representatives of the Cahul Police Inspectorate. The presence of these partners contributed to a comprehensive approach to the topic and to a discussion grounded both in community realities and the legal and institutional framework.
The atmosphere was open, constructive, and welcoming, allowing participants to feel encouraged to ask questions, share their views, and explore topics that are not always easy to discuss. We talked about:
-
the visible and invisible forms of gender-based violence;
-
the stereotypes that normalize abusive behaviours;
-
early warning signs of toxic relationships;
-
the protection and reporting mechanisms available in the community.
Participants worked with real-life examples and situations inspired by everyday experiences, which helped them more easily recognize patterns of abuse and understand the importance of early intervention.
Beyond the information shared, the activity offered a space where young women felt heard, understood, and less alone in facing the challenges they may encounter. Honest and open discussions are essential for ensuring that every young woman feels supported and encouraged to speak up when dealing with difficult situations.
The collaboration between institutions, teachers, police, and community organizations demonstrates once again that preventing gender-based violence is a shared responsibility. Only together can we build a safe environment in which everyone feels protected and respected.
