The Spirit of Christmas, Shared Together: An Inclusion Activity for Refugee, Migrant, and Local Children in Cahul
As the winter holidays approach, they bring not only lights and decorations, but also an opportunity for closeness, generosity, and solidarity. In this spirit, the Regional Community Development Center (CRDC), in partnership with the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Cahul Office, organized an activity bringing together refugee and migrant children alongside children from the local community.
The activity aimed to create a safe and welcoming space where children could get to know one another, collaborate, and enjoy the magic of the holidays together. They decorated the Christmas tree, chose ornaments, laughed, and worked as a team, filling the space with warmth and joy.
These simple yet meaningful gestures helped create an environment in which every child felt welcomed and valued.
After decorating the tree, the children were invited to write letters to Santa Claus. Their messages reflected simple wishes, big dreams, and a great deal of hope — a touching moment that allowed children to express their thoughts and aspirations in an open and supportive setting.
Above all, the activity was about cohesion, inclusion, and solidarity, aiming to support children who have recently arrived in the community and to strengthen their sense of belonging. Through shared experiences, children were able to feel that they are part of a “home” built on trust, respect, and human connection.
