World Refugee Day Marked in Cahul Through Dialogue, Stories and Community
On 20 June 2026, in Cahul, World Refugee Day was marked through a community activity dedicated to intercultural dialogue, solidarity and social cohesion.
The event, organized by the Regional Center for Community Development in partnership with Terre des Hommes Moldova, the General Inspectorate for Migration / Southern Regional Directorate, Community Center Cahul and the Refugee Council, brought together refugees, migrants, members of the local community, representatives of institutions and partners involved in supporting the integration process.
The activity created a warm and friendly space where participants had the opportunity to meet, talk, share stories, traditions and life experiences.
For CRDC, World Refugee Day is not only a day to acknowledge the difficulties faced by people who were forced to leave their homes. It is also a day about courage, the strength to start again, and communities that welcome, listen and build relationships based on trust.
During the event, the local campaign “WOMEN LEADERS WHO UNITE” was launched, an initiative through which CRDC brings closer to the public the stories of refugee and migrant women from Cahul. The campaign speaks about women who, through work, engagement and courage, contribute to community life and become bridges between people, cultures and different experiences.
A special moment of the evening was the creative workshop on making wreaths inspired by Ukrainian traditions and local cultural interconnections. Beyond flowers, colors and symbols, the workshop became an exercise in connection, dialogue and recognition of the culture that people carry with them wherever they go.
Participants discussed traditions, belonging, cultural memory and the way communities can become closer when people have the opportunity to get to know each other beyond status, language or different experiences.
Through this activity, CRDC and its partners wanted to convey a simple but important message: inclusion is built not only through services or institutional interventions, but also through natural encounters, listening, respect and real relationships between people.
We thank all participants who joined us and contributed to creating a warm, vibrant and meaningful evening.
The project “Strengthening the capacity for socio-economic integration of displaced families and host communities” is funded by the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF), administered by the World Bank, and implemented by Terre des hommes Moldova Foundation in partnership with the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
